Marianne Halter
The Swiss artist Marianne Halter is represented internationally in solo and group exhibitions with her work repeatedly issues of spaces and their corporate and social functions.
Biography
Marianne Halter lives and works in Zurich (CH).
Schule für Gestaltung Luzern (1991/97), various residencies abroad (2003/13) in Chicago (USA), Paris (F), Johannesburg (ZA) and Peterborough (USA).
Marianne Halter addresses in her work repeatedly issues of spaces and their corporate and social functions. She explores them by means of photographic, moving and drawn images as well as text fragments and links them together to create atmospherically dense installations. By restaging familiar motifs and everyday observations, doubt is spread upon the supposedly obvious images that opens them up for reinterpretations. The importance of spaces as a stage and projection room for constant selfassertion of individuals and entire societies is subtly thematized and questioned by Marianne Halters approach.
She is represented with her works internationally in group and solo exhibitions, for example in Johannesburg (ZA), Wits Art Museum When tomorrow comes (2016 in preparation); Mexiko City (MEX), Arroniz Arte Contemporáneo, Superstructures (2013). In addition, she was honored with numerous awards and scholarships such as the Werkstipendium Stadt Zürich (2011), the Swiss Art Award of the Swiss Federal Office for Culture (2010) and a studio scholarship in Johannesburg (ZA) by Pro Helvetia (2008), in collaboration with Mario Marchisella. Since 2008, regular collaboration with musician Mario Marchsiella.
