concert performance with THE ZOO encountering Sue Schlotte
THE ZOO is a duo project by Liz Allbee (trumpet & conch shell) and Michael Vorfeld (percussion & self-designed string instruments), currently touring the country as part of Soundtrips NRW. Together they develop an idiosyncratic and unmistakable, purely acoustic sound, which is accompanied by an extreme complexity and tonal spatiality.
Liz Allbee (Berlin) plays trumpet as well as conch shell, electronics and voice. Her work spans different genres such as improvisation, electronic music, noise and experimental pop and rock music. In addition to her solo work, she works in various groups and constellations such as The Zoo with Michael Vorfeld, Mensch Mensch with Burkhard Beins, Bogan Ghost with Anthea Caddy, Pivot with Chris Heenan, the Animal Nacht Quartet and the Berlin Splitter Orchestra.
Michael Vorfeld (Berlin), musician and visual artist, plays percussion and self-designed string instruments and realises electroacoustic sound works. He is active in the fields of experimental music, improvised music and sound art. Michael Vorfeld develops site-specific installations and performances with light and sound and works with photography and film. He is a member of various formations and cooperates with artists from different fields.
Sue Schlotte (Bonn) is a cellist with a focus on improvisation. She gives solo and ensemble concerts and works as a stage musician at the SchauSpielHaus Hamburg. She founded the initiative “Imprompt – contemporary art and music / Bonn”, is a member of GEDOK Cologne and Musikforum Bonn. Since 2013 she has been the initiator of the concert series Stille & Fuelle in Bonn.
