Biography

Johannes S. Sistermanns studied composition and new music theatre with Mauricio Kagel at the Cologne Musikhochschule, took singing lessons in North India and earned a doctorate in musicology. He realises his projects in installative sound sculpture, radiophonic radio play, electroacoustics and sound performance. In his sound installations, he imbues resonant everyday materials, overcomes architectural spaces with sounds and acts impulsively from an unknown potential space. Johannes S. Sistermanns has received composition commissions, scholarships, residencies, guest lectureships and numerous prizes worldwide, including the Radio Art of SWR 1997, the German Sound Art Award 2008 of WDR and Skulpturenmuseum Marl as well as the 12th German Music Authors Award 2020 (GEMA Berlin). He realises multi-media sound art exhibitions at international festivals such as the Adelaide/Melbourne Festival, EXPO 2000 World Exhibition Hanover, Musicarama Hong Kong, Donaueschinger Musiktage, International World Music Days Sydney, New York Electroacoustic Music Festival, Meion Festival Nagoya.
