Inside Ukraine – a Charity Filmprogram for Ukraine | part 4 | Ma (2016), Unavailable (2018) and Avdiivka National Museum (2018)

The film program curated by Nadia Parfan shall give Ukrainians a voice through their film makers and provide insights into a war that started many years ago without being noticed by the rest of the world.

The program was put together in collaboration with Nadia Parfan, film maker, co-founder of 86 Festival of Film and Urbanism and part of TAKFLIX, the only streaming service for Ukrainian cinema.

All presented films are made available for free by TAKFLIX. All donations will go to local organizations within Ukraine, since they know best what they need right now. We will report and inform what the money was used for.

Mom is feeding great tits from the window of her high-rise building in Mariupol, and growing queen apples in her summerhouse near the battle line. To show her simple life, she shoots videos on her small camera for her daughter, who lives in the capital and is hard to reach. To try to keep the conversation going, she feeds her overgrown child with morel mushrooms and fairytales.

Lyuba works at a pastry shop. Her son is in the war zone and out of communication. The mother goes in search of her son in a territory unknown to her.

Avdiivka National Museum by Piotr Armianovski, 2018 (English Subtitles), 6 Min.
The main exposition of the museum in Avdiivka was dedicated to the Caucasus. In 2015, exposition was partly destroyed due to the Russian projectile. But now in Avdiivka there is again a people’s museum – a place where the most wonderful ideas come to life.

Maria Stoianova

Maria Stoianova *1986 is an Ukrainian documentary film director. She was born and works in Kyiv. She graduated from the KyivMohyla Academy (degree in Culturology) and from the Central European University (degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology). Creating her film works, Maria Stoianova actively works with vernacular videos, materials from home, and public archives (short films “Ma” 2017, “The Second Wave” 2020, the project of the feature film “Fragments of Ice” 2022).

Nіkon Romanchenko

Nikon Romanchenko is a director and writer, known for Leopolis Night (2021), Unavailable (2018) and Carousel (2015).

Piotr Armianovski

Piotr Armianovski (Donetsk, *1985) is a Ukrainian artist, performer and director and lives in Kyiv. In his works Armianovski explores the themes of memory, the loss, social and symbolic constructs of everyday life. Piotr works with video, performance art and virtual reality.
