Only the useless is permanent*
Joachim Zoepf quotes individual sentences from Adorno and excerpts from records from the 1960s and uses the Doepfer Modular to combine them to electronic music.
Joachim Zoepf creates electronic music using analogue modular technology (Doepfer Modular) and digital technology. For Only the Useless is permanent!* he uses quotations from Adorno’s lecture Culture and Administration (1959), as well as excerpts from records from the 1960s, including J. S. Bach’s Concerto in D minor for two violins and string orchestra – with David and Igor Oistrakh and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Let’s Dance with Paul Kuhn and the SFB Dance Orchestra, Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Géza Anda, Wolfgang Schneiderhahn, Pierre Fournier and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and a Charleston played by Fritz Schulz-Reichel and the Bristol Bar Sextet.
The result is an electronic work that creates an interplay between the dialectic of composition (pre-structured) and improvisation (controlled coincidence) and thus tries to captivate inclined listeners again and again with its constant flow.
