Video Screening + Talk with Joachim Zoepf

24.01.2025 19:00 – 20:30

For some time now, musician Joachim Zoepf/Erftstadt has also been working with moving images in combination with his music. This has resulted in a series of works, of which 3 short films are presented.

In addition to his musical work, musician Joachim Zoepf/Erftstadt also explores the moving image. The focus here is on the interface between the image and his music.

We will show the 3 following short films by Joachim Zoepf:

readymades by nature, 2018, 14:48 min
monotonie (engl.: monotony), 2020, 2:52 min
Hammerklavier (engl.: pianoforte), 2021, 6:54 min

For Zoepf, it is important that the music and the visual level of the films can also be seen or heard independently of each other. In other words, one does not serve to illustrate the other. – Similar to the classic film Koyaanisqatsi, Joachim Zoepf’s videos also lack characters and dialog.
The music for readymades by nature was created before the sequence of images was designed. The film sequence was adapted to the music. The same principle was applied to the short film monotonie, which was created using an action cam mounted on a bicycle. Here too, the music was created independently of the visual material. The stop-motion film Hammerklavier is different. Here, the music was composed afterwards and precisely adapted to the dramaturgy of the film.
