Has the Art scene in Bonn slackend?

My name is Viktoria Poltorak and I am currently completing my 21 week mandatory internship in the showroom das ESSZIMMER- space for art +. I am currently studying Leisure and Tourism Management at the Baltic Sea in the 5th semster. What attracted me to the city Bonn? The curiosity to explore my home and the stillness of the wind that doesn’t weep me off my bike in winter.

This years unique state changed some of study plany, which led me to my intership, why is that worth mentioning? Applying for an internship in the cultural sector in a global pandemic leaves many question unanswered.

I am a mysterious art lover who was searching to find an intership that combones art and management. My curiosity for the development of the art scene, including the engagement with contemporary art, led me to das ESSZIMMER.

During my intership i have not only been given the oppurtunity to refresg an expand my knowledge, e.g. in relation to art history and its development, but also to participate actively in the planning and implementation of organizational activities.

Insight into my range of tasks, despite a very turbulent time for the art and culture industry, there was still a lot going on. Multiply readings of the Corona regulations are quite naturally included. Nevertheless, I have gained extensive insights into some important areas, such as Social-Media marketing, CMS – Content management systems like WordPress, content creation, working with several Adobe programs liek Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, internal and external communication and general reasearch tasks.

For me the communcative exchange with artists and visitors is particularly interesting, as well as helping with the realization of exhibition and events, Indeed, the pandemic has contributed to the fact that some events had to take place online or continue so that the personal exchange is largely eliminated, but nevertheless i was allowed to participate in the plannung and implementation of new strategies and projects. As well as for instance the launch of the new website to enable interest parties to interact on a new level, which is particulary necessary at this time and indispensable and will become increasingly important in the future. Thus, short- and long.term solutions and creativity are also on our agenda.

Premature conclusion. Even thugh I still habe two months to go, I can say with convition that I have not been disappointed and have learned a lot so far.

But enough of studying!

I would also like to draw attention to the familiar working atmosphere in das ESSZIMMER, it creates an open and trusting enviroment in which you might also get feedback in your work, which overall particular appeals to me since i feels it is very important for self-developement.

Of course, i could even write more but this is just a taste article, for you to get an overall idea about this intership.
