As a painter, Maria Magdalena Z’Graggen (Basel / CH) is a curious explorer. In addition to new works that were created in Buenos Aires, it shows for the first time the group of works ”Squalls” – paper objects from thrown drawings.

Maria Magdalena Z`Graggen (Basel/CH) shows work from an entirely new body of work, which was created in Basel (CH) and Buenos Aires (AR) and objects from the series Squalls, exhibited for the first time. The latter are paper objects deriving from discarded drawings and paintings.

Maria Magdalene Z’Graggen is as an artist and painter a curious explorer. She explores the processes and techniques of painting and takes the history of painting as a source and a reference point. Until about 2006, the medium itself was in focus – the colour, the material, the stroke etc. – and was at the same time result and toolbox of this research. Since then, the form has joined the pure colour and the structures, in fact the whole painting seem to dissolve and start to move.
